Channel Nine reveals four new Australian shows with a 20 to 1 remake

Publish date: 2024-05-07

CHANNEL 9 has announced four new Australian TV shows for its 2016 program line-up including the return of 20 to 1.

Nine is set to screen new shows Unreal Estate, The Briefcase, and Travel Guides alongside the revival of 20 to 1 which screened from 2005 to 2011.

Former 20 to 1 host Bert Newton won’t be fronting the new version.

Unreal Estate will take viewers inside luxury Australian homes and detail the cashed-up lifestyles of owners.

The Briefcase sees two families each week, struggling financially, given $100,000 in cash. Will they use it to change their lives or to help strangers in need?

Travel Guides is an Aussie version of the UK series which sees ordinary families sent to review local and international travel destinations. They give their frank assessment of accommodation, meals and activities.

Fans of 20 to 1 know that it counts down a Top 20 based on past events from popular culture — sports, television, movies, politics etc — with celebrities commenting on those major moments.

WHAT AUSTRALIAN TV WILL LOOK LIKE IN 2016

NETFLIX TO SPEND $9 BILLION ON NEW CONTENT

Nine’s announcement makes good on its promise to invest an extra $100 million in local programming over the next three years — more than at any time in its history.

“Today’s announcement reinforces our promise to bring viewers more local content with stories that reflect and depict their lives and the world they live in,” Mr Healy said.

“Our upcoming schedule set to commence after Easter is brimming with arguably the strongest second-quarter slate we have ever broadcast.”

Nine’s line-up of local content includes all-new factual program Sex Ed as well as the Daryl Somers-hosted hypnotism show You’re Back in the Room.

Nine will also roll out the second season of Reno Rumble, The Voice with new judge Ronan Keating, another season of 2015 hit relationship show Married at First Sight, and the third season of the drama Love Child starring Jessica Marais.

Current affairs panel show The Verdict, hosted by Karl Stefanovic, will also return. Nine will screen the 58th Logie Awards in early May.

Sir David Attenborough is back on Nine with natural history series The Hunt which will detail the relationship between predators and their prey.

Nine’s post-Easter line-up will go head to head against the final weeks of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules and another season of House Rules. Ten is set to challenge strongly with a new season of MasterChef Australia.
