Derek Carr attended the Bakersfield Christian High School which is a private, college-preparatory, nondenominational Christian school. He also studied at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas.

  • He grew up in Bakersfield, California before his family shifted base to Sugar Land, Texas, in 2002. That was when his older brother, David Carr, was selected as the first overall draft pick of the then-expansion Houston Texans.
  • Derek Carr’s high school football career began by playing on the freshman team during his first year at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. During his sophomore year, he became a backup quarterback on the varsity team. He became a preseason quarterback because another quarterback met with an injury.
