Introducing Archie Smith - CelebMix

Publish date: 2024-05-09

We always love fresh new talent here at Celebmix and singer songwriter Archie Smith is no difference.

Having grown up in Bath, Archie moved to London in 2015 to embark on his journey as a Singer/Songwriter. Writing music from a young age, Archie’s passion lies in creating and performing as a soloist, despite having been exposed to classical and choral music as well as musical theatre. Archie is an all-round talented musician with an exceptionally effortless voice and a distinct love for the piano. He combines rhythmic, current sounds with an English charm producing memorable and organic songs.

We caught up with him for a quick interview…

Can you tell us more about your music and who inspires you?

The truth is, music began for me before I can remember. I was trained classically and then when I reached the age of 11 or 12 I knew that I wanted to perform as a pop artist so I started writing my own songs.

I am inspired every day by new artists as well as the sounds I was brought up listening to. Music by the likes of Travis, David Bowie, The Beatles and Coldplay was constantly on in my house or the car during my childhood. Now, I listen to a variety of music from Laura Mvula, Volcano Choir, The National, Noah And The Whale to Jack Garratt, JP Cooper, Frances and even the occasional bit of Justin Bieber.

What is ‘Take Me To Paris’ about?

‘Paris’ is an interesting one. About four months before I wrote Paris, I knew that it would be the title of my next song. It built up in me over the months, and frustrations grew as I couldn’t seem to write anything at all. Then one day, I sat at my piano and the whole song just fell out in one go.

It is about a girl who I met during my time studying for my degree. We got really close and things became fairly complicated. Eventually she moved to Paris with her boyfriend.

You supported Rachel Platten in January, how do you think this has made an impact on your career?

Supporting Rachel was a really special night for me. I had played at Bush Hall a few months before it supporting my friend and flatmate Lauren Aquilina, so it was lovely to be back there again. It was an incredible evening. I met lots of new fans after the show and that is probably the most important things for me at the moment.

If you could tour with anyone in the world who would it be and why?

There are so many people who I would love to tour with. In a dream world, I’d love to open a show for Coldplay in an intimate venue as they were just my main childhood inspiration. Right now though, I don’t want to jinx myself by saying the artists I want to support, not that I’m at all superstitious.

If you could play in any venue, where would it be and why? It could be in any country…

In London, I would love to play The Shepherd’s Bush Empire, I’ve only been to a couple of shows there but I love it.

I’m originally from a town very near Glastonbury, so I guess the ultimate goal would be to play either the John Peel or the Park stage there before the Pyramid Stage.

What’s next in the pipeline for you?

I am doing my first ever headline show at The Islington in London on 5th May 2016 which is very exciting. I have played at the venue before as the support act, so it will be great to see a room full of people there to watch me. I also have a live video of me playing ‘Paris’ with a string quartet which I will be releasing very soon. Mainly though, writing and a couple of support slots for now. Big things to come.
