New twist in missing Melbourne woman Lucinda Millers case

Publish date: 2024-05-25

The friends and family of missing Melbourne woman Lucinda Miller have shared a frightening update.

Lucinda Miller has not been seen since 11am last Sunday, when she was dropped off by a rideshare driver 2.5km away from her home in West Gippsland, Victoria.

Now it has been revealed that the 24-year-old’s phone was no longer active just one day after she vanished.

“There are tremendous concerns for Lucinda’s safety and wellbeing,” friend Ester Livingston wrote on Facebook.

“Her mobile is currently turned off and every place Lucinda is known to has been checked.

“Due to the nature of Lucinda’s disappearance and health, please immediately contact police and ambulance with any relevant information or sightings.

“Please be mindful that Lucinda’s mother and close friends are both frightened and incredibly concerned.”

Police initially launched a search of the dense bushland between where she was dropped off and her home in Neerim South, about 110km east of Melbourne.

But officers have since expanded the search area after a possible sighting on Monday of Lucinda several kilometres south of where she was last seen.

She was captured on CCTV in Dandenong, in Melbourne’s southeast around 11am on Sunday before she was dropped off on McDougal Road, near the intersection with Ingleman Road.

“We’re talking to all property owners in that area, checking all the rivers, creeks, roadways, tracks,” Victoria Police Inspector Peter Fusinato said.

“So any property owners … be mindful that she may have wandered onto your properties and we just ask if you could check all your buildings or outbuildings just make sure that no-one has either been there or Lucinda is still located within your property.”

Police have interviewed the rideshare driver but do not think they were involved in the disappearance.

Around 50 police officers, including a dog squad, and volunteers spent Wednesday searching for the missing woman dense bushland.

The search crew was reduced to 30 people the next day.

Inspector Fusinato told the ABC that Ms Miller may not want to be found.

“She may be missing of her own volition or unfortunately has. hurt herself. We’re not quite sure,” he said.

“But we’re working on the theory that Lucinda may not want the family to know she’d come home.”
