Queensland police have issued a stern warning to two men they’re hunting over a violent home invasion that left an elderly man seriously injured.

Police allege the men broke into the Rockville home in Toowoomba about 6.20am on Wednesday and attacked the 68-year-old resident, who was home at the time with his wife.

Detective Acting Inspector Paula Smithard warned the two men they would be arrested.

“We know who you are,” Detective Smithard told reporters on Thursday.

“Toowoomba detectives will relentlessly search the Toowoomba area to find these male offenders, to arrest them and to put them into custody.”

During a struggle the man was attacked with a weapon, reported to have been a tomahawk, suffering lacerations to his chest.

He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Smithard described the attack as “abhorrent”.

“We all deserve to feel safe in our own homes,” she said.

She appealed to anyone who knows the two offenders to contact Crime Stoppers, or the local police station.

“We also appeal to these two offenders to turn themselves into police,” she said.
