Southern Charm star Naomie Olindo shared with her Instagram fans this week that her dad Joel has died of esophageal cancer. In an emotional post, Olindo revealed that her dad had been privately battling the illness for the past twelve months, and he died peacefully on Friday surrounded by people who love him.

“I missed him before he was even gone, and I can’t imagine what this road will be like,” wrote the 27-year-old in the caption of a pic that featured Olindo by her dad’s bedside in the hospital. “If someone you love is fighting this horrible disease, please know my heart is with you and it truly aches for you. There aren’t really words for this pain but I’m very thankful for the kindness and love our friends and family have shown my mom and me during the most difficult time of our life.”

Olindo went on to write that for those who had their life impacted by her dad in a tiny way or a big way, she would love to see them at the wake in Joel’s honor that will take place on January 4th at the Nico restaurant near Charleston, South Carolina, to celebrate her dad.

Olindo said her dad was the most amazing person she has ever known. He and her mom Carole – who are both from France – have appeared on Southern Charm in the past. However, they never mentioned his cancer battle in front of Bravo cameras.

Fellow Southern Charmer Eliza Limehouse commented on Olindo’s post, writing that she loves her so much and was sending her prayers. Thousands of fans have also posted their condolences, with many writing how sorry they are for Olindo’s loss.

The tragic news of Joel’s death means that Olindo is the second star of Southern Charm to lose a parent in 2019. Back in August, Kathryn Dennis lost her mom, Allison Calhoun Dennis, who also fought cancer. Dennis told People Magazine that she was “incredibly close” to her mom, and she also called her mom her “best friend.”

Just months before Allison died, Kathryn said that her mom has stuck by her through so much that she didn’t know what she would do without her.
